I find that to be a very powerful verse. It goes beyond the common meaning that we associate with it, war. One does not need to go to war to show their love for their friend. Could you honestly stand and say that you would push your friend out of the way of a moving car, you would stand up for them when they are getting bullied, could you honestly take a bullet for them? How about, could you give up an hour to chat with a friend who is in need of support, would you take the long way home from a busy day at work to drop in and say “Hi”?
You don’t need to physically give up your life to express this great love, just simply put someone else first in your life.
