This song came over the radio today as I was driving, I have heard the song before but not for a while, hearing it again I got a whole new meaning out of it…
I was thinking that in some ways churches can become like this, in our own little world that’s population me. Are we missing the bigger picture? I think we are. Let the bigger picture be that our aim is to share Gods love with people and for them to come to know him and to have the hope that we have. But churches have gotten caught up in getting bang for their buck. We want to see the most returns in our church, we are not likely to put money toward anything that is going to see more returns in another church rather than our own. Isn’t that missing the bigger picture?
As churches shouldn’t we just want people to have what we have, even if it means that the program that we organised and biggest of all financed brings someone else into a church in the next town rather than ours.
Perhaps within some of these churches there are people whose population is now 2, themselves and their church. Not prepared to give their time or support to another church. This is still missing the bigger picture. How can a church start seeing the bigger picture when the people who make up the church can’t even see and live out the bigger picture.
“Father break my heart for what breaks Yours
Give me open hands and open doors
Put Your Light in my eyes and let me see
That my own little world is not about me”
(Matthew West – My Own Little World)
